duoKAN
Harpist Christina Kant and saxophonist Kannan Bloor first performed together in 2022 as students at the University of Toronto. Since then, they have continued to promote the unique qualities of their duo in recitals across Canada. As duoKAN, they have hosted and curated the programs for multiple benefit concerts in support of cancer research, refugee funds, and youth ministry. Both Christina and Kannan have been named Emerging Artists of the Edmonton Recital Society in separate seasons, and most recently performed together as part of the 2024-25 season. duoKAN endeavours to explore and increase the range of repertoire for this unexpected instrumental combination by arranging and transcribing works from all eras and genres. In the summer of 2026, duoKAN are continuing their work in promoting duo music for their unconventional pairing as finalists of the eighth edition of the Orford Music Award, a competition dedicated to innovation and creativity of artistic proposals. duoKAN is looking forward to performing across the Prairies as touring artists with Prairie Debut for the 2027-28 season.
Christina Kant is a freelance harpist based in Edmonton, AB. Notably, she was listed as one of CBC Music’s “30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30” in 2021, after winning the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s concerto competition. Christina holds a Master of Music degree in Classical Harp from the Manhattan School of Music, and she completed her Bachelor of Music degree in Harp Performance with Honours from the University of Toronto. She is an alumna of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and can frequently be found performing as a substitute player in multiple orchestras across Canada such as the Edmonton Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, and Saskatoon Symphony Orchestras.
Kannan Bloor is a Canadian classical saxophonist and educator who transports listeners to the unique timbre of his instruments. An animated and expressive soloist, Kannan was the winner of the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s concerto competition (2026) and the Winds Concerto Competition (2024). He shows versatility in his ensemble work, with experience as a member of the University of Toronto Contemporary Music Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Saxophone Chamber Ensembles, and the Toronto Saxophone Collective among others. Kannan has performed as a substitute player in local ensembles, such as the Kindred Spirits Orchestra and Rouge River Winds Community Concert Band. Kannan is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Saxophone Performance at the University of Toronto after completing his Bachelor’s at the same institution.
